Roger & Célia – Chaudière-Appalaches

Celia, who has Angelman syndrome, lives with her parents in Adstock, near Thetford Mines. Her parents act as full-time caregivers, sharing tasks such as night-time care and administering medication three times a day.

Celia, who will never be able to live independently, needs constant supervision. Her father, Roger, explains that they are constantly worried about their daughter’s future, especially as they age and find it difficult to find adequate respite care.

Their situation highlights the challenges faced by aging parents with an adult child with a disability. The lack of specialized accommodation and long waiting lists for appropriate services increase their sense of uncertainty.

The couple would like to find a flexible, family-type resource for their daughter, where she can be happy and well cared for. They hope that everyone with a disability can be respected and have access to a home adapted to their needs.
