Julie – Mauricie

Portrait of Julie in her apartment

Julie is an energetic and dynamic woman. She enjoys serving on boards of directors, particularly that of the SQDI, not out of obligation, but out of passion. This activity helps her break her isolation and stay involved in the community.

Julie has been living independently in the same private HLM for 9 years, thanks to the Rent Supplement Program (PSL), which covers more than half her rent. She makes up the rest with social assistance programs, without being under guardianship. In total, she has been living independently for 12 years.

Julie loves her independence: cooking at her own pace, watching TV when she wants, and not being directed by others. Despite her severe chronic pain, which prevents her from working, she has been attending adult school for the past ten years to pursue her secondary education.

Very proud of her independence, Julie has received many accolades for her achievements. She attributes her great independence to her mother’s continuous stimulation during her childhood.
