Lucie, aged 62, has been living at the L’Arche Lanaudière home for 20 years, which she considers her home. She likes it there and wants to stay for the rest of her life. She categorically rejects the idea of spending the rest of her life in a CHSLD if she were to leave L’Arche. She shares this home with ten other adults with intellectual disabilities.
Recently, Lucie’s stability was put at risk, as the home was threatened with closure. Fortunately, the situation at L’Arche Lanaudière has improved, and the home is no longer threatened with closure. Indeed, following a mobilization campaign, L’Arche has succeeded in unlocking new funding agreements with the Quebec government. Public funding for these homes has been adjusted, enabling them to continue offering accommodation and meals to their residents.
As a result, Lucie can continue to live serenely in an environment she loves and where she feels safe.
