Launch of the housing campaign!

  • news

On the eve of the big moving season, the Société québécoise de la déficience intellectuelle (SQDI) is sounding the alarm with the launch of its “J’ai ma place!” housing campaign. The campaign officially kicks off on June 19, 2024.

The right to housing for everyone

The campaign defends the right to housing, which is a priority issue for hundreds of thousands of people with intellectual disabilities and their families. These people, from all regions of Quebec and not just the big cities, have major concerns about access to quality housing adapted to their needs.

“We’ve been looking for adapted housing for years. If we don’t get a break soon, we won’t be able to hold out” […] “We’re getting old after all! We’re on the verge of 70. I don’t know if in 5 years we’ll still be able to support her, but my daughter will still need the same help.”

“Many people with intellectual disabilities are on waiting lists for years to be able to find accommodation or housing, while others have their homes changed every year. Some people even find themselves homeless. […] There is a great need for innovative, healthy and stimulating living models. The campaign serves to show the government that concrete solutions need to be put in place quickly. We’re past the point of urgency.”
