To mark Disability Employment Awareness Month (October 1 to 31), the Quebec Intellectual Disability Society (SQDI) is launching its brand new campaign, “I belong in the workplace.”
This campaign will take place in three phases, throughout the fall and until December. It will focus on three areas: denouncing exploitation, informing and raising awareness among the public, and promoting good inclusive hiring practices.
Our approach is consistent with media reports, public statements by SQDI, recommendations by CDPDJ, and the widespread support of the community and professionals.
The goal is clear: to promote a more just and inclusive society by changing perceptions and practices related to the employment of people with intellectual disabilities.
The campaign targets several audiences: the general public, organizations, employers, as well as people with intellectual disabilities and their loved ones.
Its central message is strong: no one should work without being paid.
Practically speaking, the campaign will focus on three areas:
- Denouncing exploitation – a powerful advertisement created by Sonia Bacon, Alléluia, and Les Enfants (directed by Alexandre Franchi).
- Informing and raising awareness – through accessible vignettes on rights, financial support, and employment opportunities.
- Highlighting best practices – with videos presenting inspiring examples of inclusive hiring.
The jaimaplace.ca website now features a new tab dedicated to employment issues and solutions. It will be updated regularly with a variety of content related to the employment of people with intellectual disabilities.
